SEND Teach: Summer support and your September Tuition
A supportive space where we can share knowledge and resources for children with Special Educational Needs, promoting understanding, empowerment, and unlocking every child's incredible potential.

Summer can be a welcome break from routine, but its own kind of challenge too. In this newsletter, we're sharing strategies to help support your child over the holidays, plus a look ahead to September. With tutoring spaces already filling up for the new term, here's everything you need to plan ahead, and a reminder we're here to support your child right through summer too.

Making the most of summer, without losing the routine
Six weeks of summer holidays can be brilliant, and a lot for any child to navigate, especially if they thrive on predictability. Over the last month we've been sharing practical strategies with our community on our social media pages, and we wanted to bring the key ones together here for you:
Keep the anchors, drop the schedule. You don't need to plan every hour, just keep wake-up time, bedtime and mealtimes consistent, and use a visual schedule so your child knows what's coming next.
Watch out for heat. Hot weather can heighten sensory sensitivity and lower frustration tolerance. A cool, low-stimulation space at home, regular water breaks and sensory-friendly cooling (ice cubes, cold flannels, paddling pools) all help.
Start the September transition early. Even moving to a new class in the same school can feel huge. Requesting photos of the new classroom, starting a transition book, and talking about what's staying the same all build a sense of safety.
Notice the end-of-term feelings too. Anxiety, grief over saying goodbye to a trusted teacher, and overwhelm from end-of-year events are all completely normal, and behaviour at home in these final weeks is often just big feelings coming out.
Little, steady steps over the holidays make a real difference come September.

Now's the time to book your September sessions
Now's the time to book your September sessions
September fills up fast, and with our tutors set to have more in-person availability from next term, spaces are already going. Booking early means:
First pick of times get the day and slot that works for your family
The right tutor match, especially important for SEN children who benefit from consistency
A settled start to term, not a scramble in the first busy weeks
If you'd like to secure a regular slot for the new school year, now is the best time to get in touch.

Support over the summer too
Our tutors are also available for online sessions right through the holidays, whether that's revising key subjects to keep skills ticking over, or getting a head start on the new school year.
Why summer sessions can make a real difference for SEN children
No school-day pressure. Without the noise, timetable changes and social demands of a full school day, many SEN children find it easier to focus and actually enjoy learning.
Keeps skills warm, not lost. Regular, low-key sessions help prevent the "summer slip" that can hit harder for children who already find transitions and re-starts difficult.
Builds routine into the holidays. A weekly session gives the summer some welcome predictability, one more anchor point in a schedule that's otherwise wide open.
Confidence before September. Walking into the new school year already feeling capable in a subject can ease some of the anxiety that comes with a new class or teacher.
